Reflection – Pt. 1

This is the first part of something I’ve been thinking about today, and hopefully it will challenge y’all as well. If you would oblige me as much, how would you define the following:

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Patience
  • Kindness
  • Goodness
  • Faithfulness
  • Gentleness
  • Self-control

  1. Oh yeesh… Hm, let’s see…
Love: something you wake up and decide to be (LOL, Blimey Cow reference. I’m kidding.) Regarding others before yourself to the extent that you are willing to lay down your life for them. That can be in ever-day situations too. 1 John 3:16 is the best verse.
Joy: a deep-seated feeling of content and… ah… joy… 😛 that God gives. Happiness, but beyond circumstances.
Peace: a feeling of rest and no conflict/troubles, be there actually any or not. Feeling of ‘y’all caint touch me, I be in God and He’s got everyth’n under control.’
Patience: bearing with others despite their provocative behaviour. Long-suffering. Slow to anger. Also being willing to wait on God and His timing. Waiting well, in peace.
Kindness: Ah…. *checks out the Greek* “Kindess in disposition, and also in action, expressing itself in deeds; grace and tenderness and compassion.”
Goodness: “A moral quality… The desire to do good, be righteous.”
Faithfulness: Faithfulness to God, continuing to trust Him. Loyalty to others. Following through on tasks and responsibilities.
Gentleness: Meekness, but not in a ‘powerless’ sense. “Inwrought grace of the soul… first and chiefly towards God. A temper of spirit in which we accept His dealings as good, and therefore without disputing or resisting. Close to humility. Also such in the face of evil men.” 1 Peter 3:4
Self-control: Restraint exercised so that right is done.

Wow! That was quite an exploration! Thanks Lauren, I can’t wait to see what you’ll write!! 😀

    1. Haha, I like your definition of peace, it made me laugh! (Wait, that sounded like something Brooklyn Mikinzie would say… 😉 )Thanks for your detailed response, Cassie, you put a lot of effort into that!! I’ll hopefully post tomorrow afternoon/evening or maybe Sunday.

      1. It does? Well, it wasn’t intentional, but I’ll take it as a compliment! 😛
I enjoyed putting the effort in! It really got me thinking, and when I got stuck it was cool to go exploring Bible concordances, etc. 😀
        I’ll look forward to it!

  2. Yikes, okay, I’m woefully unprepared for this, but I’ll try it anyway!

1.) Love- an attitude of self-sacrifice that is patient, kind, never failing, is not proud, does not behave unseemly, seeks not its own. Basically, read 1 Cor. 13.
2.) Joy- ack, something you don’t have before a test? Seriously, wild happiness.
3.) Peace- restful tranquility or reliance
    4.) Patience- calmness to wait
5.) Kindness- going out of your way to help others
6.) Goodness- basically, return to point 1. I would say the Greatest commandment sums up goodness. Love God and others.
7.) Faithfulness- an unflinching trust and reliance upon something outside yourself (I guess some people say, “trust yourself”, but excluding that use of the word, that would be my definition)
8.) Gentleness- calmness and lack of anger
9.) Self-control- the ability to harness your emotions and actions and basically control yourself.

Getting a little tougher with the questions now, are we Lauren? Good challenge though! I imagine it’s not done yet!

  3. With no resources of information to draw from…
Love – putting someone elses needs, desires, and wants ahead of yours, and willing to do anything for them.
Joy – True happiness that does not depend upon present, past, or future circumstances, situations, or anything else
Peace – A feeling you get when you’re away from the world, and nothing bothers you about anything
Patience – the difficult ability to wait for something or someone, sometimes a very long time
Kindness – kind of like love, but just showing that you care about someone by doing something nice for them or helping them when they can’t do something
Goodness – Something all of us should be; doing something with obedience and in righteousness
Faithfulness – Sticking through with something till the end; loyalty, trust in someone or something
Gentleness – Calm reactions to any situation, or being gentle with something that’s not yours or that’s frail or breakable
Self-control – the ability to control yourself when pressed into a situation where you might be prone to anger; to resist evil and do good instead.

This was tough, thanks for the challenge. Can’t wait to see where you’re going with this.

  4. Love: Thinking first of someone else and being willing to do what is best for them, no matter what.
Joy: The presence of abounding happiness.
Peace: A calm, even in the midst of great adversity.
Patience: Being able to wait with a good attitude.
Kindness: Thinking of someone before yourself.
Goodness: Good qualities put into action.
Faithfulness: Sticking with something despite all difficulties and distractions.
Gentleness: Reacting to things in a calm, kind way, as to not inger.
Self-Control: Being able to control ones emotions, thoughts and actions.

Very thought provoking. Thanks for sharing this Lauren!
